Recycling & Trash Collection

Tuesdays 3-6pm and Saturdays 2-5pm at the Town Hall

Recycling

There is no charge for recycling. Accepted materials:

  • Glass bottles and jars: rinse clean, discard plastic caps/lids

    • No windows, mirrors, ceramics, light bulbs

  • Metal: aluminum & steel cans (rinse clean), clean aluminum foil, empty aerosol cans

    • No e-waste, TVs/computers, car parts

  • Plastic containers #1-7: rinse clean, discard plastic caps/lids

    • No plastic bags, film, styrofoam

  • Paper, cardboard & cartons: break down cardboard into 2×2 sections

    • No shredded paper

Recyclables should be loose and not bagged, and they do not need to be separated.

Trash

All trash must be contained in Town of Lucas bags, which cost $2.00 each.

Bags can be bought at:

  • The Town Hall during recycling/trash hours (sold in packs of 10, exact change of $20 per pack or check to Town of Lucas only)

  • Bob & Steve's BP station in Knapp (Mon-Fri 4am-8pm, Sat 7am-8pm, Sun 8am-8pm)

Larger items that do not fit in Town of Lucas trash bags may be accepted at Spring and Fall Cleanup Days (see below), or at the resources at the bottom of this page.

Cleanup Days

The Town of Lucas holds Spring and Fall Cleanup Days where we accept larger trash and recyclables.

The next Cleanup Day will be Tuesday, October 27, 2026 from 3-6 pm.

Dunn County holds periodic e-waste collection days in Menomonie. If we know about them we will post information on this website.

St. Croix County free 1-STOP-DROP (also open to Dunn County residents) @ Redemption Recycling, 707 Lehmann Way, Somerset

  • Accepts anything that runs on cords or batteries, including refrigerant-containing appliances (refrigerators, freezers, A/C units, etc.); rechargeable batteries; miscellaneous scrap metal (must be at least 60% metal)

  • Monday-Thursday 8am-2pm, Friday 8am-noon, year-round

First Choice Recycling, 525 Park Ridge Ct, Eau Claire

Recyc-All Services in Menomonie takes many electronics, small appliances, TVs, computers and accessories, batteries, ink/toner cartridges and more for recycling, some for free and some for a small fee. See their Facebook page or call (715) 459-5195 for accepted items, open dates, fees and location.

Medical Supplies

Take unused medications to the drop box at the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office - do not flush them (unless they are on the FDA Flush List and there is no take-back option).

Local churches may take unwanted crutches, walking boots, braces, wheelchairs, etc. Or list them on Facebook Marketplace, Craig’s List, Freecycle.

Hazardous Household Waste

Dunn County holds periodic hazardous waste collection days in Menomonie. If we know about them we will post information on this website.

Auto shops may take used oil, oil filters and tires. Fleet Farm will take lead-acid vehicle batteries.

Other Items

Kersten Family Junk Removal will haul away almost anything (for a fee), and will recycle what they can, including mattresses. See their website or call (715) 598-3677.
